Here
is a Savannah Cat four generations removed from the African
Serval called Melody who had a litter of three kittens on 14th
February 2009.

Three days later we had a litter of two Bengal kittens in need
of constant care so we placed the kittens near the bed of
the Savannah mum. She rushed out of her bed and grabbed
the kittens one after the other, cleaned them up and
nestled them in to feed.

They all took to each other
straight away and started to feed immediately.
Two
weeks later our Savannah mum still continues to fed and clean
both the Savannah Kittens and the Bengal Kittens as if they were
her own.
Melody is such a super Savannah mum. She purrs as soon as
you approach her and the kittens and she really do not mind if
you pick them up to check them over.
We can see the difference between the Bengals and Savannah
Kittens because:
-
The spots on the Bengal Kittens are bigger with the markings
of rosettes appearing already at two weeks whereas the
Savannah kitten's spots are smaller and follows through in a
more organised straight line. The fur on the Savannah
Kittens are slightly longer.
- The Bengal Kittens are more tubbier and rounded and the
Savannah Kittens are noticeably longer and leggier.
-
We can clearly see the ocelli on the back of the ears of the
Savannah Kittens in contrast to the Bengal Kittens
where it can hardly be seen if at all.
- The faces of the Savannah Kittens appears to be much
more longer and triangular in shape in comparison to the
Bengal Kittens which are more rounded.
We will keep you posted on their
progress.
